Andover Focus team has been advised that the Enham arch will be closed for two nights this month for repair works.

The road closure order is active from Thursday 22 January until works to cut back vegetation and repair brickwork on the bridge are completed.

It is expected that the work will take place overnight on Thursday 22nd from 22:00 to 06:00am Friday and again on Friday 23rd January from 22:00 to 06:00am Saturday.

During the closure traffic will be diverted via Newbury Road, Saxon Way and Redon Way to the Folly roundabout and then back to the Enham arch roundabout. The diversion will be clearly signposted along the entire route.

Our website is intended to relay news to local residents, primarily those in Alamein ward. In this case we received a copy of a council memo advising councillors of the proposed closure and felt that it was appropriate to put this on our website so everyone would know. To my knowledge none of the councillors for Alamein ward has issued news of this plan. It is not however our responsibility to carry out the council’s job and contacting every resident affected.

I understand your annoyance, as an affected resident, at not being advised of the closure. This is appears to be the result of poor communications on the part of the local council which is not under our control. As you may be aware there will be elections this year and we are hoping to get as many of our candidates elected as possible in order to improve the service given to residents by the council. In the meantime we will continue to relay any local news we get to residents via our websites and Focus newsletters.

I get you have to do the work but please tell me when you are going to sort out the roads in and around Andover as it getting beyond a joke now.as they are never fixed property just a quick fix.

I agree with you the work has to be done but all that ever seems to happen is quick fixes and make-do rather than proper maintenance and upgrades. Andover has increased considerably in size with massive new housing developments but the roads and other infrastructure have failed to keep up. All of the improvements promised by the council have yet to be seen.

At present the councillors responsible are Conservative and UKIP. All they seem to do is spend time squabbling over the size of their and other peoples’ pay packets and hurling abuse. As I’ve already said there will be elections this year which give an opportunity to elect new councillors who will get things done. We are hoping to get as many of our candidates elected as possible in order to improve the service given to residents.
